2. Important Species richness areas/Medicinal Plant Areas, Endemic and Threatened habitats of Nepal.
In the first issue of discussion ESON has presented a list of top 100 selective medicinal Plants on the screen and participants were allowed to choose each 10 highly potential Medicinal Plants of three different respective ecological zones. Based on the expertise, every participant were also free to include any other potential Medicinal Plants out of the list. 1. Top 30 Medicinal Plant list of Nepal for Domestication, Research, Trade and Conservation (ESON, March 2006) is developed.
2. Medicinal Plant Information should be disseminated to each stakeholders with high priority to collectors
3. The effort done in the scientific research should be linked into economic sector
4. Inside National Park the importance of Medicinal Plants and endemic plants should be emphasized
5.
Selection of three Important Medicinal Plants Areas in each ecological zone
would be perfect for Nepalese context
e.g: For Mountain region: Karnali zone (West Nepal); Mustang, Manang &
Langtang (Central Nepal) and Kanchanjunga (West Nepal).
6. We have
to synthesize Important Medicinal Plants Areas with other projects and
programs of different organizations working in that areas.
Sankhubasabha, Terathum and Taplejung (1700-2800m) areas should be mapped as
'Chiraito' hot spot. Among these three areas Taplejung harbour Highest
number of Chiraito in 50 VDCs. Similarly Chiraito is also available in
Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Dolakha (10-30 Ton), Lakure Danda, Rasuwa,
Gorkha, Nuwakot, Darchula, Baitadi, Humla, Mugu and Bajhang.
7. Other
medicinal plants hot spots of Nepal Himalaya are:
Kutki = Taplejung, Gunsa, Lauribinaya (Rasuwa)
Panchaule - Lauribinayak, Sanopangsang (Rasuwa)
Saussurea = Maikupila
Taxus = Yarrbudin
Chiraito = Thulo syafru (Rasuwa)
Rheum = Gosaikunda (Rasuwa)
Rheum = Sankhuwasabha, Upper Arun
Hippophae = Langtang, (Sagarmatha National park, Chhule area ?, Langbuche glacier
?, Khurekharka =?), Kyangsin (Rasuwa)
Jatamansi - Risyang valley ?
Rheum moocroftiana - Risyang valley ?
Yarsagumba = Mukur Hiamal, Kyangsin (Rasuwa)
8. Rolpa, Rukum, Jajarkot areas should be mapped as 'Timur and Sugandakokila' prime areas
9. Doti and Darchula areas should be mapped as 'Aconite' prime area.
10. Important Medicinal Plants Areas in Terai should develop a Biological corridor. Kanchanpur, Bardiya, Banke districts including Churiya from western Nepal; Makawanpur and Chitwan district in central Nepal and the boarder of Jhapa and Ilam, Sunsari districts in Eastern Nepal. The Biological corridor should be managed with other implementing projects.
11. Important Medicinal Plant Areas should be chosen based on the local peoples nature and interest too.
12. Important Medicinal Plants Areas should be linked with Gaurisankar-Rolwaling areas the ECO Himal and Sagarmatha-Langtang Himal concept
13. For priortized species clear justification should be provided
14. Churia is also the priority area of HMG Nepal so Important Medicinal Plant Areas should incorporate this zone too.
15. Experience of IUCN, WWF Nepal, ANSAB etc would important for the evaluation of the resolution of this meeting.
16. The resolution of this workshop would be the guideline for making policies in this sector.
17. Top ten Medicinal Plant areas are: Dolpa, Rasuwa, Sankuwasabha, Taplejung, Manang, Mustang, Gorkha, Darchula, Dolakha, Humla
