INTRODUCTION

Nepalese Plant Database Information Service Centre (NEPDISC) is a computer-based database, specifically designed to manage data on Flowering and Non-flowering plants of Nepal. All information in the NEPDISC is based on published literature. It comprises three major botanical database packages: Flora Database of Nepal (FLODON), Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Database of Nepal (MAPDON) and the Ethnobotanical Database of Nepal (EDON).

These databases, in Microsoft Access, are prepared for the amateurs and professionals working in various disciplines of biology, forestry, agriculture, phytochemistry, medicine, and other related fields. The database package will be continuously updated with new modules in response to feedback from the users. The system also provides link to other botanical databases and information systems, such as: Bibliography (in Endnote plus), Nepalese Gazetteer and Plant Collectors (in MS Access).

NEPDISC is prepared and managed jointly by Central Department of Botany, Tribhuvan University and the Ethnobotanical Society of Nepal (ESON), in collaboration with national organizations (RONAST, and Department of Plant Resources, MOFSC) and international organizations (The Natural History Museum London, Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh, UK Government’s  Darwin Initiative (UK), and  University Museum, University of Tokyo (Japan).

FEATURES
NEPDISC encompasses databases on the Flora of Nepal (FLODON), Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Nepal (MAPDON) and Ethnobotany of Nepal (EDON). FLODON comprises information on approximately 6000 species of flowering plants, MAPDON with more than 1,700 species of medicinal and aromatic plants, and EDON is under construction. MAPDON and EDON are directly linked with FLODON, and major taxonomic information are derived from there.
