Nepalese Plant Database Information Service Centre (NEPDISC)
FLODON
(Flora Database of Nepal)
FLODON comprises primary information on all flowering plants of Nepal
(with accepted names and synonyms), so far described from Nepal. Major
information in the database is primarily based on 'Enumeration' (Hara
et al., 1978-1981) and 'Checklist' (Press et al., 2000),
whereas the description of plants is based on standard floras.
Following information are available in FLODON:

Nomenclatural data: Information on family name, generic name, current
or valid species name with author citation, literature citation and
vernacular names.

Synonyms (ca. 8,000 entries): All published botanical names, other
than valid names are mentioned.

Distribution: Distribution of the species in Nepal and elsewhere is
given, including elevation ranges and status (endemic, native,
naturalized or exotic, etc.)

Type
specimens: Information on type materials and their holdings (herbaria)
of more than 1700 species are incorporated in the database.

Plant/herbarium specimen data: Information on locality of collection,
elevation, collector, collection number, date of collection,
collector’s note, etc.

Nepalese Gazetteer or locality database (more than 1100 entries): It
has several components like physiographic regions, districts, exact
localities, altitude, latitude and longitude, wherever possible.

Plant
collectors: Database of plant collectors in Nepal from Hamilton
(1802-1803) to recent collectors are mentioned.

Digital images or line drawings: Digital images or line drawings of
numerous Nepalese plants, including type specimens, are included in
the database.

GIS-based distribution map of some important species will be included
in the near future.

Bibliography (more than 1100 entries): This database is prepared in
Endnote Plus, and provides information on author, year of publication,
title, publisher, as well as key words, and abstract, whenever
possible.
