ESON Book
Release
A book on 'Ethnobotany of Nepal', published by
Ethnobotanical Society of Nepal (ESON), was released on August 1,
2001 by the honourable Vice-Chancellor of Royal Nepal Academy for
Science and Technology (RONAST), Prof. Dr. Dayananda Bajracharya,
the chief guest. The program, organised by ESON, was chaired by Dr.
K.K. Shrestha, President of ESON.
In the inaugural ceremony, after the welcome address and the Chief Guest’s remarks the book was released. Then, the author of the book Dr. K.R. Rajbhandari, Scientific Officer, Department of Plant Resources (DPR), HMG, highlighted about the book. This was followed by comments from three distinguished commentators: Dr. K. Shrestha, Chief, Natural History Museum, Tribhuvan University (TU), Dr. R. Taylor, Ethnobotanist, Hollins University, USA and Dr. N.K. Bhattarai, Ethnobotanist, DPR. During the program publications and photographs related to ethnobotany were also exhibited.
Same day on 1 August 2001, the book
release program was followed by an interaction program of ESON. The
program was chaired by Prof. Dr. S.D. Joshi, Head of Central
Department of Botany (CDB), TU. The program started with the
introduction of ESON and its activities the General Secretary, ESON.
Then, Dr. T.B. Shrestha, Academician, Royal Nepal Academy, Prof.
L.M. Singh, Himalayan Drug Research, Mr. M.S. Bista,
Director-General, Department of Plant Resources, Mr. Bhisma Subedi,
Coordinator, ANSAB and Dr. S.B. Malla, Coordinator, Nepal
Biodiversity Program, Dr. Gyan Lal Joshi, Coordinator, Green Energy
Mission, Nepal gave their remarks. This was followed by general
discussion and the remark from the chairperson. Concluding remark
was delivered by Dr. K.K. Shrestha, President,
ESON.
Launching of Website and Demonstration of Medicinal Plant Database
Society
launched its Website (Web: www.eson.org)
on December 2, 2002 by the honourable Vice-Chancellor of Royal Nepal
Academy for Science and Technology (RONAST), Prof. Dr. Dayananda
Bajracharya, the chief guest. The program, organised by ESON and was
chaired by Dr. Krishna K. Shrestha, President of ESON. Welcome
speech was delivered by Dr. Narendra N. Tiwari, Vice-President,
ESON. Sangeeta Rajbhandary, Treasurer, ESON highlighted about the
Website. Prof. Dr. P.K. Jha, Head, Central Department of Botany
(CDB), TU, Dr. U. R. Sharma, Director-General, Department of Plant
Resources, Dr. C. P. Gurung, Country Representative, WWF Nepal
Program, gave their remarks. During the same program Mr. Mark
Marcuson, Professional Artist, Nebraska, USA was felicitated for his
contribution to ESON, with his few words. This was followed by the
remark from the chairperson.
In the second
session Demonstration of Medicinal
and Aromatic plants Database of Nepal (MAPDON) was done
by the Co-ordinator of MAPDON and President of ESON, Dr. KK
Shrestha. The session was chaired by Dr. T. B Shrestha, Academician,
Royal Nepal Academy. This was followed by the remarks from Dr. Madhu
Sudan P Upadhyaya, Senior Scientist, NARC, and Dr. Damodar P.
Parajuli, Joint-Secretary, Ministry of Forests and Soil
Conservation. The session was ended by the remark from the
chairperson.
ESON General Assembly
ESON organised its Annual General Meeting on April 13, 2003. Chief guest for the inaugural program was Prof. Dr. Dibya Deo Bhatt, former Head, Central Department of Botany, TU and was chaired by Dr. K.K. Shrestha, President of ESON. Program was followed by a welcome speech from Dr. N. N. Tiwari, Vice-President, ESON. Progress Report of ESON activities was delivered by Sangeeta Rajbhandary, Treasurer, ESON. Prof. Dr. P.K. Jha, Head, Central Department of Botany (CDB), TU, Mr. S. Tiwari, from IUCN, and Dr. N. K. Bhattarai, Senior Scientific Officer, Department of Plant Resources, gave their remarks. ESON badge was distributed by the chief guest for the Life members of ESON and Advisory board members along with his address to the august gathering. Ila shrestha gave away the vote of thanks and the program was ended by the remark from the chairperson. During the program, ethnobotanical material collected during the research of NTFP and some personal collection was exhibited and with this the initiation of ESON Museum was done.
Only ESON members participated in the close session. Dr. K. K. Shrestha, President of ESON presented ESON activities and future program and S. Rajbhandary, Treasurer, ESON gave the financial report. With this the present Executive Council body was dissolved. The program was then followed by the formation of New Executive Council members. General body proposed and accepted 11members as the New Executive Council members, which are as follows:
